Rock Valley Golf Club Raves as IGA’s 2024 9-Hole Course of the Year
Rock Valley Golf Club has received the prestigious IGA’s 2024 9-Hole Course of the Year title. This remarkable course is frequently praised for its stunning facilities and vibrant clubhouse, bar, and kitchen that are always buzzing with activity.
The club has experienced a steady increase in membership over the past few years, showcasing its popularity. A true indicator of the course’s appeal is the sight of vehicles from out of county or out of state parked in front of the clubhouse on any given day.
Rock Valley has undertaken numerous improvement projects, such as adding multiple bunkers and removing trees that were impacting the condition of the greens, rough, and fairways, while ensuring the course remains competitive and true to its history. The club has also constructed new cart paths, carefully re-leveled tee boxes, and overseeded the greens and fairways to keep the course in excellent shape. Additionally, a program for youth involvement has been created, rewarding young players as they reach specific goals. Mike Finch Named IGA 9-Hole Superintendent of the Year
We were thrilled to hear that Mike Finch of Hawarden Golf Club has been honored as the 2024 IGA 9-Hole Superintendent of the Year!
His nine seasons as superintendent include a range of essential tasks: mowing fairways and roughs, changing pin locations, spraying for weeds, fixing irrigation lines, and much more. His commitment to problem-solving ensures that the golf course remains in excellent condition for players.
Under Finch’s leadership, several improvements have been made to enhance the golf experience. These include establishing a practice area for iron play in previously unused spaces, the automation of all fairway sprinkler valves, and the initiation of a memorial golf tournament. This tournament has successfully raised over $12,000 in just five years, which has funded enhancements to tee boxes, cart paths, patio furniture, and other vital improvements.
